Die weitaus meisten ADB-Geräte arbeiten problemlos mit iMate - zur Zeit sind nur 6 von über 150 getesteten Geräten als inkompatibel bekannt. Von den 6 sind 4 sogenannte Watchdogs - diese Geräte funktionieren mit iMate aber ihr Einsatz ist nur an Macs mit integriertem ADB-Anschluß sinnvoll.

Zahlreiche Dongles und auch andere, meist spezielle Geräte erfordern jedoch den einen oder anderen Kunstgriff - die folgende Liste enthält besondere Anwendungshinweise für solche Geräte.

Warum Kunstgriffe manchmal erforderlich sind? Der ADB-Bus ist von Apple erst gegen Ende seines Daseins hinreichend dokumentiert worden. Viele Entwickler haben ihre Geräte deshalb so weit optimiert, daß sie hinreichend gut funktionierten. Auf Geräten ohne ADB-Anschluß fällt aber jede Abweichung von dem, was wirklich sein sollte, gnadenlos auf. Hinzu kommt, daß zahlreiche Dongle-Hersteller eher der Windows-Plattform zugeneigt sind und die Mac-Dongles oft halbherzig entwickelt und verfeinert haben.

Griffin Technology arbeitet daran, so viele ADB-Geräte wie irgend möglich mit dem iMate funktionsfähig zu machen. Regelmäßige Treiberupdates sorgen dafür, daß mittlerweile auch exotische und unzureichend arbeitende ADB-Geräte via iMate funktionieren.

Dr. Bott KG unterstützt diese Bemühungen durch Kooperation mit allen europäischen Herstellern von ADB Geräten. Durch Einsendung eines Gerätemusters wird die Funktion am G4/400 und am G4/450 geprüft. Falls sich Probleme ergeben, wird in Zusammenarbeit mit Griffin eine Lösung erarbeitet.

**** Bei Problemen mit Wacom-Tabletts empfiehlt es sich, die Datei "Tablet Preferences" aus dem Ordner "Tablet" im Ordner "Preferences" im System Ordner zu löschen, neu zu starten und die Zuweisung des Tabletts an den ADB Port neu vorzunehmen.
Insbesondere beim Versionswechsel zwischen Version 4.3 und 4.4 der Wacom-Treiber haben wir erhebliche Probleme durch defekte Wacom-Präferenz-Dateien erlebt. Die obige Prozedur hat diese Probleme sofort erfolgreich behoben.

** iMate-Anwender Manfred Wagner berichtet, daß beim Betrieb des Welch Allyn ST-3000 auch bei Anschluß des iMate direkt am Rechner stets die Fehlermeldung "zu hoher Strombedarf" angezeigt wird. In seiner Konfiguration funktionierte der ST-3000 erst als iMate an einem USB-Hub mit eigener Spannungsversorgung angeschlossen wurde.

*** Sogenannte Watchdogs sind kompatibel zu iMate, können aber ihre Funktion grundsätzlich nicht via USB ausführen. Technisch Interessierte werden wissen, daß Watchdogs automatisch via ADB einen Reset auslösen, wenn der Mac sich aufgehängt hat. Am ADB-Mac funktioniert dies einwandfrei. Am USB Mac ist im Fall eines Systemfehlers USB oft mit als erstes betroffen. Der vom Watchdog am ADB-Bus ausgelöste Neustart wird brav von iMate in den USB-Befehl umgesetzt. Der USB-Bus ist aber nicht mehr in der Lage diesen Befehl zu verarbeiten und so kommt der gewünschte Neustart nicht zustande (oder erst dann, wenn man die Blockade außerhalb des USB-Bus aufgelöst hat - dann findet ein "unerwarteter" Neustart statt, da dieser am USB-Bus auf Verarbeitung gewartet hatte).

Alle Patches und Updates auf dieser Seite lassen sich mit StuffIt Expander entpacken. Je nach Update ist das Update eventuell als DiskImage (.img) abgelegt. DiskImages lassen sich mit DiskCopy 6.3 oder neuer von Apple Computer Inc. problemlos handhaben. Für einige Anleitungen ist Adobe Acrobat Reader erforderlich - falls diese Software nicht ohnehin bereits auf Ihrem Rechner installiert ist, bekommen Sie sie hier.
